DNS Leaks - Network Speed

Hello all.

I purchased Viscosity to use with my VPN Providers service but am having an issue. DNS Leaks seem the be occuring non stop. How do I prevent this from happening?

On a side note, the adapter details for the Viscosity network settings are showing the VPN Speed at 10 Mbps. Is there any way to increase this up to 1gbps as I'm using a gbps NIC and a 50 mbps connection?

Hi top_hat101,

The easiest way to prevent a DNS leak for now will be to set your Primary Network Adapter to a static DNS server you don't mind using like Google (8.8.8.8), we will be introducing a fix for this in the next version of Viscosity.

To change your DNS:

Go to the Network and Sharing Centre then select Change adapter settings on the left.
Right click the network adapter you use to connect to your network (this could be a Wireless or Ethernet conection) and select properties.
Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) from the list and select Properties.
Select "Use the following DNS server addresses:, then in the text boxes below enter
8.8.8.8
8.8.8.4
Then click OK to all Windows.

In regards to the network speed, this is only what the Virtual Adapter reports to Windows, it does not govern the actual speed the network connection is capable of. We have happily pushed 1gbps through a Viscosity Virtual Adapter with it reporting to Windows a Maximum of 10mbps. The speed you get is going to be dependent on the backbone of your VPN Provider, so if you are having speed issues, we highly recommend you contact them.

Regards,

Eric

Thanks Eric. That did the trick with the DNS leaks.

As for the connection speed that's great to know. I'm getting descent speeds from my VPN provider (not 50 Mbps) but more than 10 now that I look at the actually transfer speed I'm receiving.
