Long time listener, first time caller. Love the show. Even convinced my company to buy licenses for all the staff.

For a little bit, I had been trying the ProtonVPN app. I switched back to using Viscosity last week, but I can't remember which day. Then, it took me a few days to realize Viscosity was consistently not running when I sat down each day. Older crash logs are automatically deleted, so I am not sure for how long this has been going on.

Looking at the crash logs I do have, I can see entries for (time are UTC +7 Ho Chi Minh):
03/24/20 06:24 am
03/21/20 06:54 am
03/20/20 05:18 am
03/19/20 06:31 am
03/17/20 05:40 am

I think it missed the 22nd and 23rd because that's the weekend, and this is work machine. It crashed Saturday morning (21st) , and I didn't restart Viscosity until Monday (23rd). I don't know why it didn't crash on the 18th. It's possible I was using ProtonVPN's app that day.I usually work very late, until midnight to 1 am, meaning the crash happens about 5 hours after I stop using the machine. It remains on and connected to the internet.

Usually I am connected to a Private Internet Access OpenVPN endpoint in Singapore.

- I don't have any regularly scheduled processes running at that time that I am aware of.
- I am not running Sentinel One (per viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2812&sid=d1a937ee1c ... 0060b824e3).

My configuration:
- Viscosity 1.8.4 (1528). Removed an reinstalled yesterday. Still crashed last night.
- MacOS Catalina 10.15.3
- MacBookAir8,1 (Late 2018), plenty of disk space free
- MacOS Firewall disabled
- Little Snitch 4.4.3 (5430), but I don't see any denials related to Viscosity. I just mention it as it's the only other bit of network related software I have installed
- MalwareBytes 4.1.28, but no automated scan. I have the free version and manually scan around 6pm daily.
- Internet connected through an Apple Ethernet to USB adapter, not wifi.
- I have the ProtonVPN app installed, but I don't run it at the same time as Viscosity.

Hi glassfulanomaly,

Thanks for the detailed report - it's certainly an unusual crash! Can you please try each of the following and let us know if you're still seeing the crash:

1. Update to the latest beta version of Viscosity (currently version 1.8.5b6):
https://www.sparklabs.com/support/kb/ar ... -versions/

2. Update to the latest version of macOS (10.15.4).

It looks like Viscosity is attempting to connect a VPN connection at the time of the crash: my guess is that either your computer is waking from sleep around that time for a particular reason, or your computer is left on overnight and your Internet is dropping around then (causing Viscosity to attempt to reconnect). Why Viscosity is crashing in response to this though isn't clear. Hopefully it's something the beta addresses.

Thanks,
James
