Hi,

I'm using viscosity in order to access LDAP server which is accessible from VPN.

However, I need the LDAP to login so and Viscosity only works as application which runs on user context.

Perhaps there's a way to run it as launchDaemon automatically when OS starts and disregarding current user name (if any) ?

thanks !

Hi chapo81,

I'm afraid it isn't possible to run Viscosity without a logged in user. A background connection option is something in the works for a future update though.

I recommend you look into turning on macOS cached credentials, which will allow you to log in when a connection to the LDAP/directory server isn’t available. They’ll you'll be able to connect to the VPN and macOS will update your cached profile automatically if needed.

Cheers,
James

Hi James,

that Is good news, a feature for an auto-connection at boot time is essential for my needs. With such a feature Viscosity is next to perfect in my book.

Since Big Sur locks everything down even further I am currently disabling SIP to load a TAP kext so I can use the SoftEther client for the VPN stuff. Being able to use Remote Desktop when a user is not logged on is really neat.

Since I am a developer myself, I hate to ask this: Is there some rough timeline you feel comfortable to share? I know, those questions are intrusive so I would be grateful if you could tell me if it's years or months for this future to arrive. I just would like to be able to plan if I have to look for a different solution or if I just keep calm and sit it out for the time being (tuning off SIP is the pain which drives my question).

Many thanks,
Tobias

Hi Tobias,

I'm afraid we don't have an ETA available. As always, we encourage prospective Viscosity users to assess Viscosity on what it is now, rather than what features may or may not come in a future update. We don't want to set unrealistic expectations or disappoint anyone. If Viscosity doesn't currently have functionality that is essential to you, then we do recommend looking at alternatives.

We do however take note of all feature requests (and associated demand for those features) and take them into account when deciding what to work on next.

Cheers,
James
