Hi Juerg, In short, there was a dead lock happening when we tried to get diagnostics data on why the driver install failed. The irony here is the driver install wasn't failing, Windows has just started randomly reporting it has in some cases since a recent update. In your case, it seems it must have...

Hi Chris, Thanks for the feedback. If possible, could you please update to the beta again and let us know what the status of the Virtual adapter is in device manager? It should appear in Properties, you may need to enable the device to get a status other than Disabled. Once done, you can simply reve...

Hi Juerg, We've just released Viscosity 1.9 Beta1 which has a fix for an issue like this, except in the few reports we've had it's only occurred extremely rarely, never consistently like it has for you. We'd appreciate if you would give the latest beta a go and let us know if it resolves this issue ...

Hi Juerg,

While in the Creating state and after the device is created, can you please check Task Manager for tapinstall.exe. If you see this, please terminate this process and see if Viscosity goes back to a normal state.

Regards,
Eric

Hi Juerg,

If you go to properties on the created adapter in Device Manager and Enable the adapter, what is listed as the device status?

Regards,
Eric

Hi Pat, I'm afraid we're seeing this both ways at the moment. We're seeing users who have problems with Viscosity and not OpenVPN GUI, and we are seeing users who have issues with OpenVPN GUI and not Viscosity. It does seem to be random and down to when NCSI does it's check in relation to when the V...

Hi kderby, I'm afraid there is not much we can do about this as we cannot control how Windows checks network connectivity. We have made reports to Microsoft. The problem even effects Windows built in VPN protocols like PPTP/L2TP. The problem does appear to be fixed in Windows 10 20H2 (Insider builds...

Hi Maiadog, If you are unable to ping the VPN Server, it means that either something is blocking the traffic at either the local or remote end, or the server or client is misconfigured, for example non-matching or too aggressive ping-restart values. You may wish to try dropping the users MTU and fra...

Hi Maiadog, At a glance from your log, my first guess would be a firewall is blocking traffic on your local PC. This could be AV software as well blocking OpenVPN traffic. Please try rebooting, disabling any AV or firewall software you have installed and trying again. Are you able to ping the VPN se...

Hi haraldh, Is it safe to assume that Viscosity still checks that the server certificate is signed with the CA-certificate even though that error occurs in the logs? Yes this is correct. nsCertType has been depricated, for more information please take a look at the remote-cert-tls command: https://s...
