macOS 10.14 Mojave crash with TAP adapter configuration
Got a problem with Viscosity or need help? Ask here!
Hi,
I can reliably crash macOS 10.14 Mojave with Viscosity running VPN session in TAP mode.
Anyone has seen the same?
I have two different remote servers in TAP mode and can crash macOS by connecting to any of them.
To reproduce, I connect VPN session, then run LanScan app, select vtap0 interface and run scan a couple of times. macOS goes down with black screen.

Hi shpokas,
What you describe sounds like a kernel panic. It's highly likely this is a kernel bug that should be reported to Apple using their Bug Reporter. It's unlikely it's a problem with the TAP driver itself (but possible), more likely LanScan is doing something different because of the TAP interface that is triggering a kernel bug.
There should be a panic crash report in the in the System Reports section of the Console (/Applications/Utilities/Console.app) that will have detailed information about the crash. Checking the process listed is a good idea, and you may want to send it along to Apple irregardless.
Cheers,
James

Hi James,
thanks for reply! I have filed a bug report with Apple even though there is no panic crash information. System Reports in empty in Console.app and also no related information in /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports
Let's see if this goes any further with Apple, usually it takes months to get processed anyway.
Kind regards,
shpokas
