I use Viscosity to connect to my network at the office. When I am connected remotely, however, the Internet on my local machine does not work. It says there is no connection available. How can I fix this?

Thank you.

Hi Macuser,

Your VPN Administrator has most likely set all traffic to go through your office VPN connection, but general Internet access is blocked (such as by a firewall on the VPN server). This may be intentional on their part, or it could simply be a misconfiguration. I'd recommend getting in touch with your office's IT staff/department in the first instance, as they may not be aware of the behaviour and can make a change on the server.

If you're unable to contact your VPN administrator, you can try overriding the routes in Viscosity instead:

Finally, another possibility is that it may not be a routing issue but rather the DNS server being set for the VPN connection cannot be used for general Internet lookups. If this is the case you can try forcing Split-DNS or using a different DNS server:

Cheers,
