My openVPN Provider uses TCP. Up till now I did not think much of it - but after reading up on openVPN - I realized it might be better to use UDP - especially in my situation. So I asked my provider to change my protocol from TCP to UDP. Connecting using TCP was no problem - it worked just fine - but now that I changed the protocol to UDP in Viscosity (that is all I changed - nothing else) - it gives me the following error:
Code: Select all
Tue Dec 1 12:44:00 2009: LZO compression initialized
Tue Dec 1 12:44:00 2009: UDPv4 link local: [undef]
Tue Dec 1 12:44:00 2009: UDPv4 link remote: *.*.*.*:1443
Tue Dec 1 12:45:00 2009: TLS Error: TLS key negotiation failed to occur within 60 seconds (check your network connectivity)
Tue Dec 1 12:45:00 2009: TLS Error: TLS handshake failed
Tue Dec 1 12:45:00 2009: SIGUSR1[soft,tls-error] received, process restarting

Is there something else that I need to change in my settings? Or that my Provider needs to change in order for UDP to work? I thought it would as simple as just changing the protocol in my settings - but I guess I was wrong. Please help, thanks.

Hi longhorn625,

It's probable that you'll also need to change the port number as well. You're best sending the error message to your VPN provider (along with some screenshots of your connection setup) and asking them if any settings need to be changed.

Cheers,
James
