Hi,

I'm trying out Viscosity but it's constantly dropping my vpn connection.

I used to use Tunnelblick, which very rarely dropped the connection, and imported the settings from there. Viscosity has no problem connecting, and I can use the remote server quite happily. However, if I then go off and do something different, usually when I come back the connection is gone, depsite Viscosity's icon claiming it's open (i.e: is green). I'm forced to manually close & re-open the connection.

My normal workflow when working from home over VPN is login, view task list, start working on a task, then when finished, go to update task progress at which point I find the vpn connection is gone.

Any idea why this is? Is there a way to configure Viscosity so it will either keep the connection open, or automatically re-open it it it's closed?

thanks,
donncha

Hi Donncha,

Does your VPN server expect a ping/keepalive directive? You may like to try the following and see if it helps:

1. Open Viscosity and edit your connection
2. Click on the Options tab
3. Enter "10" into the Ping field, and "60" into the Ping Restart field (without quotes)
4. Click Save and try connecting

If it is still dropping the connection, would you be able to send your OpenVPN config file (that your system administrator would have given you) and the OpenVPN log (from the Details window) to [email protected] (feel free to censor out any sensitive information such as your server's address).

Cheers

That's fixed it. Thanks James.

That was my only reservation, so I'm buying my licence now.
