Working with multi user environment
Got a problem with Viscosity or need help? Ask here!
I'm currently evaluating the software and I have a little but very serious problem with Viscisity. I would like to use that in a multi user environment where two user can connect via VPN parallel on the same machine. In this case the first user can connect without any problem but the second doesn't, the Viscosity stay the "connecting" status while the first user disconnect. I'm using tunnelblick currently without any problem to manage parallel connections.
Can anyone help me in this issue?
Regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,
Viscosity uses a static port number for each connection you have setup (to control the connection). If you are running multiple copies of Viscosity (i.e. Fast User Switching), then these would clash, and only the first connection attempt would work.
Viscosity was never really built with a multi-user environment in mind as this could be considered a security risk (each user would be able to send and receive data through other users VPN connections), however I'll see about adding dynamic port number assignment to Viscosity 1.1.
Cheers,
James
