Topic: Is it possible to determine the hostname or IP of a connected VPN server given one of Viscosity's utun interfaces?

I'm a developer trying to work out the feasibility of an app idea, which is an app that can correlate a virtual interfaces (e.g. utun10) with a specific VPN connection, and then automatically set up routes based on which VPNs are connected. Since I primarily use Viscosity to connect to my VPNs, I'd ...

Thanks James. Would you be willing to say a little more about how to write such a script? I'm curious both what would execute the script (e.g., would it be a launchd job?) and how to change the DNS server (e.g. should the script just edit the /etc/resolver/hostname.domain file)?

I have a new issue concerning this: I have a hostname that I always want to be resolved using the system's local DNS server and not over my VPN connection. However the system in question is a laptop and might be connected to any number of local networks. Consequently I can't specify the local DNS se...

That was my problem! It was actually working as intended, but I was using dig and it was leading me to think that it wasn't. Thanks for the tip.

Hi, I'm bumping this old thread because I'm trying to set up the same thing, but I can't get it to work with the previous instructions. I've set my VPN's DNS mode to "Full DNS" and then created files in /etc/resolver for the domains I want to use my local DNS server for as per the linked i...

I'm afraid not. You may need to return to the scripting approach for IPv6. Ah, I'm back to square one then! Well I can go back to using the scripts I originally wrote and modify then to add IPv6 routes too, but I don't know what I need to fix the deal with the issue I originally reported. I suspect...

It sounds like the syntax being used may be invalid, or the IPv6 address/es being entered may be invalid. I recommend trying to create some through the editor (make sure the IP version is to to v6) and see if it persists. I'm still not able to get it to work. Could you give me an example of a valid...

Thanks for the help so far. Unfortunately I'm still unable to add an IPv6 route to Viscosity. Each time I create an IPv6 route it doesn't stick -- it just disappears the next time I open the settings window. Further, since I'm using Viscosity on a laptop that's connecting to various different Wi-Fi ...

Thanks for the tip on copying over routes between connections! I have one more question concerning IPv6 routes: Currently I'm unable to add them to my connections. If I try to add it to routing section in the connection's settings, it doesn't give me an option for choosing any gateway other than &qu...
